Canadys Station
Located near Walterboro, S.C., Canadys Station stopped generating electricity in early November 2013 as part of the company’s goals to reduce emissions, achieve a more balanced generation portfolio and comply with environmental regulations. While in operation, Canadys generated approximately 300 megawatts of electricity by burning pulverized coal and produced enough power in one hour to supply the average electric needs of 300 residential customers for one month.

Since beginning commercial operation in 1962, Canadys station had many environmental upgrades to reduce emissions and by using a closed cycle cooling water system minimized the impact on the nearby Edisto River and wildlife.
