The V.C. Summer Nuclear Station supplies approximately 19 percent of SCE&G customers’ electricity. The 966 megawatt plant is located approximately 30 miles north of Columbia in Jenkinsville, South Carolina. It is jointly owned by SCE&G and Santee Cooper.
In 2004, the plant celebrated 20 years of reliably supplying electricity for South Carolina customers. That same year the Nuclear Regulatory Commission extended the plant’s operating license, granting it twenty additional years of operation through the year 2042.
SCE&G and Santee Cooper have announced plans to build two additional nuclear units at the V.C. Summer Station. For more information on these new plants, visit our New Nuclear Development pages.
