Top 5 Reasons Homebuyers Want Natural Gas
September, 2008 - Issue #4

You’ve undoubtedly talked to someone who raves about cooking with natural gas and refuses to consider anything else. Or maybe you’ve heard buyers say how much quicker natural gas heat warms up a house. Well, did you know that 7 out of 10 new natural gas home buyers are more likely to purchase a home with natural gas, according to recent studies?*

Here’s a look at the top five reasons buyers want natural gas homes:

Natural gas is the clean, green energy choice.
Did you know that natural gas is one of the cleanest energy sources available, burning about 30 percent cleaner than other fossil fuels? Let your buyers know that using natural gas in their home is a good way to help reduce their impact on the environment. Choosing natural gas appliances can reduce your carbon footprint by about 35 percent, according to the American Gas Association (AGA).

In addition, natural gas requires no underground fuel tank, eliminating the need for refill deliveries. And, 90 percent of natural gas produced is delivered to a customer as useful energy versus other fuels that lose efficiency during generation and transmission.

Natural gas water heaters are cheaper to operate.
Did you know that natural gas appliances are often more cost-effective to operate, because they last longer and require less maintenance than their electric counterparts? In particular, natural gas water heaters last longer than electric water heaters, which can save replacement costs over the years.

According to the American Gas Association, natural gas water heaters can save a family more than $2,000 over a nine-year period. In addition, standard natural gas water heaters will ensure that you have hot water, even when the power is out.

Gas cooktops, ranges and grills offer reliable, fast, precise cooking.
Foods can cook faster and more evenly with natural gas. And, with a gas flame there's no waiting for the burner to warm up or cool down. Unlike an electric range, the cooking stops as soon as the burner is off. And, with natural gas you can even cook when the power is out.

Natural gas provides heat that’s up to 25oF warmer than electric.
Natural gas furnaces heat homes quickly because they deliver air to heat registers that’s up to 25 degrees warmer than electric heat. Other heat sources can't match the fast warm-up time of natural gas.

Homes with natural gas have a higher resale value.
Buying a home with natural gas heat, water heat and other appliances can pay dividends in the future. Homes with natural gas have a four percent higher resale value, according to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). A natural gas home is a wise investment for any homebuyer.
