NOTICE TO ALL LAKE MURRAY APPLICANTS
Effective September 16, 2007
Until recently, upon receipt of the letter notifying you of permit approval by SCE&G, you would have all the permission necessary to authorize the activity applied for, and you could start construction. Both the State of South Carolina, through the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (the Corps) has regulatory authority at Lake Murray. They satisfied their regulatory responsibilities by issuing General Permits granting their permission, subject to an applicant’s compliance with SCE&G’s shoreline permitting program. This allowed individuals to satisfy all regulatory requirements with SCE&G acting as a “one stop shop” for most shoreline activity permissions. Unfortunately, because the Corps unintentionally allowed its General Permit to expire, we have been asked by the Corps to advise SCE&G permit applicants that they must now also file a separate application with the Corps, and await receipt of that permit before any construction can proceed. We cannot gauge how long it may take the Corps, after a receipt of a completed Corps application, to process and issue their permit. But it now is an entirely separate permit process. Ball, Project Manager at (843) 329-8047. The Corps has initiated actions to re-issue the General Permit, but that process may take several months. SCE&G has no authority to waive any Corps requirements.
