June 2, 2005, Columbia, SC - South Carolina Electric & Gas Company (SCE&G), principal subsidiary of SCANA Corporation (NYSE: SCG), reported that the V.C. Summer Nuclear Station returned to service June 1 following the plant's 15th refueling and maintenance outage.
The 1,000-megawatt plant, which is located near Columbia, South Carolina, is jointly owned by SCE&G (2/3) and the South Carolina Public Service Authority (1/3), a state-owned utility that is also known as Santee Cooper. SCE&G is the plant operator.
"Our entire organization put in a tremendous amount of hard work and long hours to make this refueling outage a successful one," said Vice President of Nuclear Operations Jeff Archie.
During the outage, plant personnel replaced approximately one-third of Summer Station's 157 uranium fuel assemblies and completed normal and preventive maintenance work that cannot be performed when the plant is in operation.
