Dec. 15, 2005, Columbia, SC - For 500 needy families in the SCE&G service territory, the holiday season was a little bit brighter this year, thanks to the generosity of SCE&G employees and retirees. For a 23rd year, bags of food and toys were provided to local families just in time for Christmas as part of the annual Good Neighbor Fund Christmas Project.
Food baskets and toys were assembled and delivered by employees, retirees and officers of SCE&G to 250 needy Lowcountry families on Tuesday, Dec. 13, and 250 needy Midlands families on Thursday, Dec. 15.
"The gratitude of the families who receive these gifts is overwhelming," said Ted Jeffcoat, president of the Good Neighbor group. "Service to our communities is one of our core values, and our employees are committed to helping needy families in their communities."
Each year, approximately 500 needy families and individuals in South Carolina benefit from the holiday basket drive; half of those are in the Midlands region and the other half are in the Lowcountry region of the state. Since 1983, more than 10,000 baskets have been delivered.
