January 4, 2006, Columbia, SC – South Carolina Electric & Gas Co. will conduct a full activation test of the siren warning system along the Lower Saluda River at noon on Jan. 10 as part of the Lake Murray Dam emergency action plan.
A full, three-minute activation test is conducted on the second Tuesday of January each year for the sirens, which would alert the public to tune in to Emergency Alert System stations for information in the unlikely event of a potential failure of the Lake Murray Dam and the new backup dam.
One-minute functional tests are conducted at noon on the second Tuesdays of each month during the remainder of the year.
