CAYCE, S.C. (May 6, 2010) – SCANA Corporation (NYSE:SCG) announced the election of Jeff Archie to senior vice president and chief nuclear officer for South Carolina Electric & Gas Company today at its Board of Directors meeting in Columbia, S.C.
A 30-year veteran of the nuclear industry, Archie has most recently served in the capacity of senior vice president of Nuclear Operations since August 2009. His responsibilities include the day-to-day management of nuclear operations, as well as the overall leadership and strategic direction for existing nuclear operations and new nuclear construction for SCE&G.
SCE&G and Santee Cooper, a state-owned electric and water utility in South Carolina, are joint owners in the construction of two 1,117-megawatt nuclear electric-generating units at the site of the V.C. Summer Nuclear Station, near Jenkinsville, S.C. The first new unit is scheduled to be on line in 2016, and the second in 2019. Total projected cost to build the two units is $9.8 billion; SCE&G’s share of that total is $5.4 billion.
“Consistent with the plan we announced last August, Jeff has completed the transition of CNO duties and he now has accountability for all of the company’s nuclear matters. His demonstrated leadership in the management of our existing nuclear generation makes him uniquely qualified for this role,” said SCE&G Executive VP for Generation Steve Byrne. Archie will continue to report to Byrne.
Archie has been with SCE&G since 1978. Throughout his tenure at V.C. Summer Station, he has held several managerial positions with increasing leadership responsibilities, including general manager of Engineering, general manager of Nuclear Plant Operations and vice president of Nuclear Plant Operations.
Archie is a graduate of the University of South Carolina. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1981.
