COLUMBIA, S.C. (Feb. 1, 2012) – South Carolina Electric & Gas will conduct controlled burns on islands in Lake Murray and Lake Monticello over the next several weeks as part of its ongoing safety program.
SCE&G conducts the burns annually to reduce undesirable ground litter and underbrush, according to Tommy Boozer, who oversees the company’s lake management program.
The controlled burns are under the regulation and approval of the S.C. Forestry Commission and performed under the direct supervision of SCE&G registered foresters who hold approved prescribed fire managers licenses.
SCE&G is a regulated utility engaged in the generation, transmission, distribution and sale of electricity to approximately 665,000 customers in South Carolina.
