CAYCE, S.C. (August 28, 2013) – South Carolina Electric & Gas Co. will permanently close its Georgetown office Nov. 1. The company is accepting customer payments at the Piggly Wiggly in Georgetown as of September 3. Payments can also be made at SCE&G’s Myrtle Beach office at 8990 Shine Avenue.
"It's always a difficult decision to close a local office, but we believe this is the right decision with a minimal impact on our customers and our employees," said Vice President of Gas Operations Felicia Howard. "The Piggly Wiggly already handles payment transactions in the Georgetown area and should be a convenient solution for our customers.”
SCE&G said a combination of factors, including employee attrition, low customer traffic and operational efficiencies, led to the decision to serve customers out of the nearby Myrtle Beach office.
"More and more of our customer interactions have moved online, and that number continues to grow,” said Howard. “We still have customers who like to come in and handle their transactions face to face. The Piggly Wiggly location will be able to support their payment needs and our Myrtle Beach office is there to assist with other transactions.
"Residential and business service calls will continue to be handled by the same people who have been servicing Georgetown, so you’ll still be seeing familiar faces.” added Howard. “Customers can also visit the Myrtle Beach Customer Service Gas Office.”
SCE&G also offers online payment options (www.sceg.com) and 24-hour call-in customer service (1-800-251-7234) as additional options for conducting business with the company.
