Budget Billing

Sign up for Budget Billing, and avoid fluctuations in your SCE&G bill. We’ll estimate your bills for the next 12 months and spread that amount into 12 equal payments, which will be your monthly payment.

For each of the next 12 months, your bill will show your actual usage, your total amount due, and your special Budget Billing amount. You simply pay your Budget Billing amount.

We regularly check your account to prevent large balances from adding up. Usually, your monthly Budget Billing amount will not change during the year. However, an adjustment to your amount may be necessary under certain circumstances, including if:

  • Your billing rate changes.
  • You add or eliminate equipment resulting in dramatic increases or reductions in your energy usage.
  • Your energy usage changes significantly due to weather abnormalities.

Because energy usage typically varies from month to month during the course of the year, but payments under Budget Billing generally remain the same, Budget Billing is designed so that in some months you will pay less than your actual usage (i.e., your account may run a debit balance), while in some months you will pay more than your actual usage (i.e., your account may run a credit balance).

After 12 months, we'll recalculate your bill based on your actual usage.

If the total amount you paid during the 12-month period is less than your actual billing amount (you owe us), then you can either pay the difference in full or have the difference added to your recalculated Budget Billing amount for the next 12 months.

If the total amount you paid is more than your actual billing amount (we owe you), then we'll apply that amount to your recalculated Budget Billing amount for the next 12 months.

Budget Billing payments must be made in full by the due date to avoid being removed from the Budget Billing Plan. Additionally, SCE&G’s policy is to assess a late payment charge of 1.5% to any balance that is not paid by the due date. Therefore, while enrolled in the Budget Billing program, late payment charges do apply to the monthly Budget Billing balance, if not paid by the due date, regardless of whether your account is carrying a debit or credit balance.
