SCE&G Extends Energy Efficiency Program To Help Mobile Home Residents

Cayce, S.C. (Sept. 13, 2016) – SCE&G announced today that it has expanded a program that provides eligible neighborhoods with energy-saving improvements.

The company’s Neighborhood Energy Efficiency Program now offers energy efficiency measures for eligible manufactured and mobile homes throughout the SCE&G service territory. Since 2013, SCE&G has worked with local governments to identify high-need neighborhoods, fitting the program’s census criteria. Eligible electric service customers receive the installation of energy efficient light bulbs, HVAC filters, smart-strip power strips, winterization kits for window air-conditioning units and other energy-saving measures. The new program component will provide additional measures for manufactured and mobile homes.

“The neighborhood program has been a huge success in areas like Allendale, where there’s more than 80 percent participation,” said SCE&G Program Manager Gerald Freeman. “Residents have seen the impact of energy-savings improvements and tips offered through the program. We’re proud to now extend this service to our customers living in mobile homes, where energy efficiency measures designed specifically for mobile homes can really make a difference.”

Some of the additional energy efficiency measures that will be installed in manufactured and mobile homes include belly board insulation and reflective roof coating.  Under this new program component, each manufactured or mobile home is evaluated for the measures that would have the greatest impact on reducing energy usage.

SCE&G’s Neighborhood Energy Efficiency Program has provided energy-saving measures to more than 4,500 SCE&G customers throughout the company’s service territory. In April, the program was launched in Allendale and offered to more than 600 customers in the area. SCE&G is offering the program this fall to more than 500 customers in the Eau Claire community in north Columbia.

SCE&G offers a comprehensive portfolio of EnergyWise® programs that work together to increase overall energy efficiency and reduce energy usage during peak times of the day. Through the use of energy efficiency tips and ideas, rebates and incentives, SCE&G customers have reduced electricity usage by approximately 584,000 MWh during the portfolio’s first five years.
