Cayce, S.C. (May 3, 2018) – SCE&G is observing Community Action Month by partnering with organizations to complete weatherization projects and provide helpful information during community resource meetings and special events.
The company is kicking off the month by weatherizing two customers’ homes--May 8 in Saluda and May 16 in Batesburg. These projects, which will improve the energy efficiency of the homes, will be in partnership with the South Carolina Department of Administration’s Office of Economic Opportunity, GLEAMNS Human Resources Commission, Inc. and the Aiken Barnwell Counties Community Action Agency, Inc.
“Weatherization projects are always extremely gratifying,” said Cristina Freeman, customer assistance program manager for SCE&G. “It’s an awesome opportunity for us to make an indelible impact on the lives of customers who receive assistance. It’s life-changing for us as well as for the customer.”
Later in the month, SCE&G customers and other members of the community will have direct access to Customer Assistance representatives during various community meetings throughout the state. Attendees will receive information about short-term and longer-term assistance programs as well as everyday advice on how to save energy. These meetings are a collaboration among several organizations, including GLEAMNS Human Resources Commission, Inc., Low country Area Agency on Aging, the Aging and Disability Resource Center and Wateree Community Actions.
“Community Action agencies provide invaluable support to many people in need,” said Freeman. “We want our customers to be aware of the helpful services SCE&G offers, so we partnered with local organizations and we’re hitting the road to meet our customers where they are. We plan to continue to attend meetings and various events because we want our customers to know that we care about them and their families.”
Meetings are currently scheduled in Greenwood, Varnville, Columbia, Sumter and Camden. For details, visit www.sceg.com/assistance.
