Check for natural gas availability. If available, here’s what to expect:

  1. You will get an email from SCE&G confirming that gas is available, which includes a link to our New Service Agreement.

  2. After you submit the agreement, an SCE&G representative will contact you. We will then schedule a time to meet you at your home to determine the gas meter location.

  3. SCE&G will install the service line from the street to your home. Digging is required. We will restore your lawn by reseeding and replacing any landscape if necessary.

  4. Choose your own plumbing contractor to install your natural gas equipment and run the fuel line to your meter.

The contractor you choose to install the equipment will file for the required permit with the local inspection department to have an air-pressure test of your line. Once it passes inspection, your line will be marked with a green tag. This step must be completed before SCE&G can set and turn on your gas meter. Most jurisdictions also require a final inspection of the gas equipment.

  5. SCE&G will install your gas meter. We may need access to your home to see the gas equipment or the thermostat. Your heating dealer should also return and start up the heating system to be sure it is working properly.

At least one piece of natural gas equipment must be completely installed before activating your service.
